How is WBC different from other ballet competitions?

  • WBC uses innovative scoring technology allowing the judge’s scores to be entered and displayed simultaneously to the audience immediately after each dancer completes their routine.

  • WBC gives open and immediate feedback. Scores are posted after each dancer’s routine and the results are posted on the WBC website upon completion of each day. Where as in a typical competition, scores are closely held by the judges and only issued after the competition is completed, creating an air of impropriety and favoritism.

  • All WBC rounds are broadcast live on the internet. Viewers can follow their favorite dancers and chat online about the competition.

  • The order of competitors for each round is established via lottery (each competitor draws their number) on the evening prior to the round.

  • Free studio time is offered to competitors (reserved in advance).

  • Daily master classes are held onstage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center.

  • Competitors have scheduled individual stage time to rehearse onstage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center before each round of competition.
